Lyon announced on Wednesday that it reached an agreement to transfer the striker Karim Benzema to Real Madrid for an amount that could reach 41 million euros (67 billion dollars).
The French club reported on its website that Real Madrid paid 35 million euros (57.4 billion dollars) for the transfer, although the amount could reach 41 million with bonuses.
Lyon accepted the decision of Karim Benzema and negotiated the terms of a transfer that satisfies all parties, said the French team said in a statement. The club wishes him the best with Karim.
Real Madrid confirmed the agreement on its website, noting that Benzema will sign a contract for the next six seasons. He said that will be submitted to rigorous medical examination in the coming days.
The Spanish club facing competition from soccer betting Manchester United in the bid to sign striker for 21 years, considered one of the best young players in Europe.
Benzema is the third major signing since Florentino Perez became Madrid's presidency in early June.
Perez already bought from the Milan midfielder Kaká and Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of Manchester United, which spent a record 131 million dollars. They also signed defender Raul Albiol of Valencia.
The player wants to seize the opportunity offered by Real Madrid to become one of the key pieces in an ambitious new policy that involves several of the world's major players, said Lyon.
Perez promised that the club will re-ups after a season without titles and with several controversies.
In four seasons with Lyon, Benzema converted 43 goals in 105 league games and 12 in 19 games in the football odds Champions League.
